These Are a Few of My Favorite Things...the cleaning edition!

I realized yesterday that I have very strong affections toward certain cleaning products. I guess it's my general analness reaching toward every aspect of my life, but I do love to clean! There is a sense of satisfaction that goes along with the smell of a clean bathroom, and nothing puts a smile on my face like a freshly scrubbed toilet!! (I wish I were joking...) So, here are a few of my favorite cleaning products:

The Magic Sponge--Seriously, this is my favorite cleaning tool! I have about 8 boxes right now because I go through them so quickly. Mr. Clean is the original maker, but the Walmart brand seems to work just fine! This little diddy gets those black marks off of walls, takes of crayon, can be used as a pretreater for clothes, and I even use it to wipe down the porch railings! Yesterday, Caleb lovingly drew with Sharpie marker all over the kitchen table...yikes! My Magic Sponge didn't fail me though. Permanent marker was no match for it!!

Carbona's Laundry Stain Remover--This is a pretreating agent that has different formulas for specific stains (ie: grass, pen/ink, makeup, grease/oil, etc.) You don't know how many times I get overhead marker on my clothes, so the pen/ink formula is my favorite! They also make a soak for fruit stains that works wonders! They aren't cheap, but neither is buying new clothes to replace your stained ones...or at least that is how I look at it! I always try my regular stain remover first, but Carbona's is there to take a stain out when it doesn't work.

Lysol Wipes--I seriously have these things all over the house! Having a 1 1/2 year old makes for a lot of messes, and I try really hard to keep things clean. However, I also work full-time (currently...) and don't have much "free" time. These little guys really help to keep things clean and sanitary when I don't have time to go into full cleaning mode. They are also really convenient when I get toys from Freecyle and need to disinfect them. I just wipe them down with the Lysol wipes and then wipe them off with a wet rag (just in case Caleb decides to suck on it or something). It's a lifesaver!

Julie, if we were married we would have the cleanest house in the universe. I am also a nut for the smell of a clean toliet and I kid you not, last weekend I found a box of Mr. Clean sponges under my sink that I thought were gone and went to town on my porch and railings out front! :-)

Ha ha! Yes, I love to wipe down the railings, now that mine are vinyl! My house isn't as clean as I would like it to be during the school year, but I try really hard! Matt forgets over the summer how much I rely on him during the year...I think he's wishing I stayed home too! :)

Yeah, my house is never as clean as I'd like it to be. I think the only way it would be is if I lived alone and that would be no fun! I tend to get obsessed about weird things being clean when people are coming over for the first time, too. I am learning to laugh at it though. I think I need some therapy!

I keep meaning to ask you about food, too. I am clueless about how to feed a vegetarian husband. I can't come up with meals that aren't just a steamed bag of veggies, though he is perfectly fine eating those. He doesn't like any of the stuff that looks like meat. I am in a rut of making spaghetti in 20 different versions! Any sites you go to for recipes? :-)

Cerebrocostomandibular Syndrome

If you happen to pick up the latest Reader's Digest, there is an article in there about Piper Breinholt , a four year old with CCMS.  If you've been around here a while, you'll remember wayyyyyy back when we first received Abby's diagnosis that I was able to speak to Piper's mom, Reagan.  The article is more about their story and not as much about the ins and outs of CCMS, but I think it's probably enough to get some people googling it and I'm hoping a few will end up here. Every once in a while, I give a blog post the title of Cerebrocostomandibular Syndrome so that it would show up in Google.  My ever-present hope is that people will stumble across my blog and 1) be encouraged by the hope we have in Christ, 2) feel a connection with someone in a similar situation as them, or 3) get excited over the miracles that have been performed in Abby's life!!  (a combination of all 3 is great too!)  :)   Notice that it's not to get famous and it never wi

The Potty Man

Caleb LOVES to go potty! I have never heard a potty training story like this one....Caleb tells us when he needs to go, we take his diaper off, and he goes! Now, is it perfect? No, not at all! We aren't trying to potty train at at all, but we figure every time he goes is one less diaper we have to change! The only time we consistantly put him on the potty is when we give him a bath (he always pees in the tub, so we know he needs to go!) He almost always goes on the potty now instead of the tub though. When he's not "really" going potty, he's pretending to go potty! He's such a funny kid!

Lego Party: Favors

I'm a little slow in posting the Lego Party pictures, but I think I have a few excuses I could use.  At any rate, I wanted to share what I did for the party!  It will take a few posts, so stay with me.  I'll start with how I did the favors. These are the goody bags I made.  I just bought solid colored gift bags and matched scrapbook paper to each bag.  Then I punched circles and attached them with the 3D foam tape so that the circles were raised. I used the keychain (explained below) as a name tag on the outside. These are Duplo blocks.  I put a round magnet on the back and...voila!  A magnet!  (note:  hot glue doesn't work so well...I ended up reglueing them with my apoxy because the magnets fell off.) I made crayons using Lego man crayons.  Yes, I know this guy has lost half of his leg.  The others were already packaged and I didn't want to open one up just to get a picture.  I used a Lego mold  to make the crayons.  Caleb put small pieces of crayon in each m
