Guess Where We Are????

I'm taking a break from all of the hard playing we've been doing to update my blog while the kiddos are sleeping.  We snuck away for a few days to Lancaster so that we could take Caleb to Dutch Wonderland.  This was a surprise trip for him, so we really didn't tell anyone ahead of time to keep everything a secret.  So far, our trip has been fabulous!  We obviously can't relax quite as much as we could before my high-maintainance girl came along, but it is nice to just be a family--sans nurses!--again and enjoy some fun.

Last night was okay, although the pulse oximeter went off a lot in the beginning.  Once we changed the probe at 3 a.m., we were able to sleep much better.  Thank goodness we're on the first floor where there aren't too many other guest rooms, because I'm pretty sure we woke everyone up on the floor with the apnea monitor beep!  Tonight, Matt and I are going to trade places so that I can be the first responder to the monitors and he can hopefully sleep a bit more.

Apparently, there's a bit of a heat wave?!?  :)  We've been extremely careful and went to DW last night, to the water park this morning, and will go back again tonight.  That way, we're avoiding the hottest part of the day.  We also have a battery-powered fan for Abby that has been great.  We've had lots of people comment on that!  Today, I packed a container (Lock & Lock of course!) with lots of ice and a little bit of water in it.  I brought a wash cloth with me and we wiped Abby down with the icy cold water.  That seemed to help a lot.  We also blew the fan over the icy water several times too.  We've picked lots of shady areas and took turns hanging out in the air conditioned eatery while the other went on rides with Caleb last night.

Abby has been doing just fine!  She's even gotten to ride a few rides herself!  (The little ferry they have and the carousel--although they wouldn't let me get on the horse with her, so we had to sit on one of the benches.) We're hoping to find a few more she can ride on today.  A lot of them say "No hand-held infants," but she can sit on her own just fine with my arm around her, so I'm going to see if I can find some calm rides for her.  There have been several that I know she will be fine on, and Caleb loves when she can go too.

After everybody wakes up, we're going to go for a nice drive in the country and stop at some of the out-of-the-way shops.  That's my favorite part about Lancaster, so I'm looking forward to it!  We'll head back to DW this evening after the sun isn't blaring down so much and the crowds of hot, sweaty people have thinned out.  Last night, we walked right onto just about every ride!

Alrighty, time to go get my brood going! ;)

Cerebrocostomandibular Syndrome

If you happen to pick up the latest Reader's Digest, there is an article in there about Piper Breinholt , a four year old with CCMS.  If you've been around here a while, you'll remember wayyyyyy back when we first received Abby's diagnosis that I was able to speak to Piper's mom, Reagan.  The article is more about their story and not as much about the ins and outs of CCMS, but I think it's probably enough to get some people googling it and I'm hoping a few will end up here. Every once in a while, I give a blog post the title of Cerebrocostomandibular Syndrome so that it would show up in Google.  My ever-present hope is that people will stumble across my blog and 1) be encouraged by the hope we have in Christ, 2) feel a connection with someone in a similar situation as them, or 3) get excited over the miracles that have been performed in Abby's life!!  (a combination of all 3 is great too!)  :)   Notice that it's not to get famous and it never wi

The Potty Man

Caleb LOVES to go potty! I have never heard a potty training story like this one....Caleb tells us when he needs to go, we take his diaper off, and he goes! Now, is it perfect? No, not at all! We aren't trying to potty train at at all, but we figure every time he goes is one less diaper we have to change! The only time we consistantly put him on the potty is when we give him a bath (he always pees in the tub, so we know he needs to go!) He almost always goes on the potty now instead of the tub though. When he's not "really" going potty, he's pretending to go potty! He's such a funny kid!

Lego Party: Favors

I'm a little slow in posting the Lego Party pictures, but I think I have a few excuses I could use.  At any rate, I wanted to share what I did for the party!  It will take a few posts, so stay with me.  I'll start with how I did the favors. These are the goody bags I made.  I just bought solid colored gift bags and matched scrapbook paper to each bag.  Then I punched circles and attached them with the 3D foam tape so that the circles were raised. I used the keychain (explained below) as a name tag on the outside. These are Duplo blocks.  I put a round magnet on the back and...voila!  A magnet!  (note:  hot glue doesn't work so well...I ended up reglueing them with my apoxy because the magnets fell off.) I made crayons using Lego man crayons.  Yes, I know this guy has lost half of his leg.  The others were already packaged and I didn't want to open one up just to get a picture.  I used a Lego mold  to make the crayons.  Caleb put small pieces of crayon in each m
