Amazing News and a Bunch of Thank Yous!

Those of you who are friends with me on Facebook most likely already saw Abby's excited video, but I wanted to share here as well.  Abby will officially be going back to school on April 23rd!!

This start date has been a long time coming with many meetings and we have jumped through about 37 revolving hoops, but we did it!  Our poor pediatrician has been so patient with the paperwork that we kept bringing to him (the school system just kept requiring MORE documentation!) that I got him a gift card for Panera.  He really went above and beyond with all of the paperwork.

Abby is absolutely ecstatic to go back to school.  She seriously cries every night because she misses school and all that comes with it.  Caleb and I secretly made her a chain link countdown while she had her piano lesson yesterday so that there was a visual reminder of how many days left.  He was so sweet and painstakingly decorated each link with her favorite stickers.  It was really cute!

I have to say that while this year at home has not been easy, a few people have really helped to make it a lot easier.  First, Abby's home/hospital teachers, Mrs. M. and Mrs. D. (who also happens to be her one-on-one) have been phenomenal!  They have been diligent in making sure Abby is keeping up with the class and have given Abby many creative assignments to keep her engaged.  We are thankful for both of them and will miss Mrs. M (since Abby will still see Mrs. D. every day!)

Next, Abby's teacher Mrs. G. has been amazing this year!  She has worked so hard to make Skype meaningful for Abby.  Figuring out the ins and outs of virtual learning isn't easy and she has just run with the challenge.  She has really gone above and beyond to make Abby feel included and part of the class.  We are thankful for all she has done to prepare the class for Abby's arrival too. With her guidance, I know it will be a smooth transition.

Last but certainly not least, we are so grateful to my mom, sister, dad, and aunt for their willingness to watch Abby at various times this year!  Between the 6 of us, we have been able to cover Abby's care and allow me to keep working part-time.  I would not have been able to keep working (or have insurance!) if it hadn't been for them.  Because Abby requires treatments multiple times a day, they all had to train to be able to care for her.  In addition, they also worked with Abby on school assignments--this wasn't always a walk in the park!  :)  I know it wasn't easy and we are thankful for their willingness to pitch in and take care of our girl!! My mom has been especially flexible in being willing to watch Abby--even at the last minute.  My family is so amazing!

We so appreciate your prayers and encouragement as we have walked this road this year.  There was a time when I wasn't sure Abby would get back to school at all, but she has improved so much and we are grateful to God for his healing.  He has performed so many miracles in Abby's life and she has quite a story to tell.

Cerebrocostomandibular Syndrome

If you happen to pick up the latest Reader's Digest, there is an article in there about Piper Breinholt , a four year old with CCMS.  If you've been around here a while, you'll remember wayyyyyy back when we first received Abby's diagnosis that I was able to speak to Piper's mom, Reagan.  The article is more about their story and not as much about the ins and outs of CCMS, but I think it's probably enough to get some people googling it and I'm hoping a few will end up here. Every once in a while, I give a blog post the title of Cerebrocostomandibular Syndrome so that it would show up in Google.  My ever-present hope is that people will stumble across my blog and 1) be encouraged by the hope we have in Christ, 2) feel a connection with someone in a similar situation as them, or 3) get excited over the miracles that have been performed in Abby's life!!  (a combination of all 3 is great too!)  :)   Notice that it's not to get famous and it never wi

The Potty Man

Caleb LOVES to go potty! I have never heard a potty training story like this one....Caleb tells us when he needs to go, we take his diaper off, and he goes! Now, is it perfect? No, not at all! We aren't trying to potty train at at all, but we figure every time he goes is one less diaper we have to change! The only time we consistantly put him on the potty is when we give him a bath (he always pees in the tub, so we know he needs to go!) He almost always goes on the potty now instead of the tub though. When he's not "really" going potty, he's pretending to go potty! He's such a funny kid!

Lego Party: Favors

I'm a little slow in posting the Lego Party pictures, but I think I have a few excuses I could use.  At any rate, I wanted to share what I did for the party!  It will take a few posts, so stay with me.  I'll start with how I did the favors. These are the goody bags I made.  I just bought solid colored gift bags and matched scrapbook paper to each bag.  Then I punched circles and attached them with the 3D foam tape so that the circles were raised. I used the keychain (explained below) as a name tag on the outside. These are Duplo blocks.  I put a round magnet on the back and...voila!  A magnet!  (note:  hot glue doesn't work so well...I ended up reglueing them with my apoxy because the magnets fell off.) I made crayons using Lego man crayons.  Yes, I know this guy has lost half of his leg.  The others were already packaged and I didn't want to open one up just to get a picture.  I used a Lego mold  to make the crayons.  Caleb put small pieces of crayon in each m
